What this machine is for
The Komatsu PC228 is a 23.8 tonne short-tail-swing crawler excavator. Like the Volvo, the counterweight stays close in over the tracks, so it can slew a full circle beside boundaries, walls and live buildings — but it carries a 1.49 m³ bucket and 161.8 kN of tear-out force, which makes it a serious production machine on bulk work.
It is a workhorse: a six-cylinder Komatsu SAA6D107E-2 engine at 116 kW, 600 mm tracks for stability on soft and broken ground, and 9.2 metres of horizontal reach with a 6.1 metre dig depth. It suits site clearance, reduced-level digs, loading lorries and sustained muck shift where a machine has to keep going all day.
It is hired with an experienced operator as standard. Delivery, positioning and the day's method are agreed with you before the machine leaves the yard.
